Print

Designing a typeface takes a lot of time and needs precision, I would not have thought about when I started the letters. The very first version of Bikop was finished the 2nd of February 2022. The font is made in Glyphs Mini and currently contains around 300 glyphs, which support the majority of the Latin alphabet. The one and only regular typeface can be downloaded via the link below and it's free to use in personal projects without monetary gains. Don't hesitate to contact me in case you have questions about the licensing.

Strategy

Inspired by brutalist architecture, SM Bikop is designed in a very graphical approach, nearly architectural. In the process of the font making, the flow of the font defined itself clarified the strategy of the shape puzzle. Pieces of circles break hard-edged corners and create interesting Cyrillic inspired characters. The grotesque sans serif font works as well in paragraphs.

Visual

I started the making of the font with a more experimental and free approach. It was important to get into the software itself and to be prepared for future projects that contain type or logo design. Most of the glyphs contain a mono line with curves that mostly bend in perfect 90-degree or 180-degree circles. This system could quickly adapt to the majority of the glyphs and create a simple design that has its own personality.
